1970 tires OE or repro ?

IS anybody finding OE 1970 white letter tires ? I understand it is only 3 points but IF I could find a good set of OE's without completely breaking the bank it would be nice. Even if somebody had a set of repro zero miles white letter I would listen to that way. I have a spare that appears to be original to this car, A- condition, should I keep that as spare to go 5 repros ?
    THANKS, Bob

Keep it as the spare if you are having it judged as the spare is judge by itself.

The white letters themselves wouldn't be a deduct as they were an option however there are other things to consider. They would need to be the correct brand, construction material, non dot and size. Actually, if your white letters were a non typical size, shape, etc then they could be a deduct. There are standard deduction tables to refer to, to determine how close or far your tires are from original which then determines the amount of the deduction. These can be found in the Judging Reference Manual. I have judged, yes.

Are you looking for tires just for judging or for driving as well?

For judging, 45 year old OE's would be the best for points (depending on condition).

For driving there are only two choices for correct repro RWL tires. I believe the repro Goodyear Wide Treads judge better than the repro Firestone Wide Ovals due to tread/rib configuration.

The original spare gets judged on it's own, so the spare doesn't need to match the other four.

I have the Goodyear RWL's on my car. I've put about 8k miles on the tires. They don't drive as nice as radials, but they aren't terrible. Sure do look good though.
