Looking for a fiberglass paint remover with a paste consistency

Will be removing paint from under the car. Is there a good paint remover that will stick like paste and not drip on me.

I like Zip Strip. It will drip if put it on too heavy. Light coats with a paint brush work ok. Working upside down as I did on my 70 undercarriage did result in very little drippage but still tough working upside down.

I just know it by Zip Strip brand. We have it in all the local hardware stores including Home Depot.

I've never used Zip Strip but I find that the products sold in the local hardware stores are not fiberglass safe. I learned the hard way (can not remember the name) but was lucky I was removing paint from a fender well. I'm still looking for a true fiberglass safe remover. Hugh

I've never used Zip Strip but I find that the products sold in the local hardware stores are not fiberglass safe. I learned the hard way (can not remember the name) but was lucky I was removing paint from a fender well. I'm still looking for a true fiberglass safe remover. Hugh

I used zip strip on the entire underside of my 70 and in the fender wells with zero issues. In fact, I was able to safely remove all the cheap black paint that was on seat reinforcements and other parts as well. The zip strip removed the cheap paint and did not affect the fiberglass one bit or the original paint on the reinforcements. I was extremely pleased with the results. It allowed preservation of the original finishes when used correctly. Note that I left the remover on some areas for an extended period of time too.

I did not leave the stripper on the seat reinforcements very long or any other factory painted part on the underneath. Extreme care was used to remove the cheap black paint and stripper. I used a plastic putty knife and blue shop towels on these factory painted areas to remove the stripper and unwanted black paint that covered everything underneath.. When using stripper to remove the paint on the bare fiberglass, a plastic putty knife and body filler applicator seemed to work best to prevent scratches on the fiberglass. Final cleaning was with gray scotchbrite pads and 000 steel wool. You can use red scotchbrite pads but don't rub too hard or fine scratches or fine scratches will result. Final wipe was with good lacquer thinner and old terry cloth towels cut up in to small pieces.

Sounds like fun.

For years I have used Captain Lee's paint remover.

It is designed safe for fiberglass. However it is not a paste. It's a semi-paste clear consistency but it adheres well even upside down. You can brush it on or spray it on. I have used it on outer panels, doors, C1 instrument clusters, interior FG panels, etc. It is neutralized with water.

Found a good paint remover for fiberglass. Klean Strip Aircraft #GAF354. It's very thick, works well overhead. No flumes and use water to clean up. Leave it on for about 5 minutes and off the paint.

I have used many gallons of the Klean Aircraft stripper over the years. It is very toxic. You need to be in an extremely well ventilated area or outside and a respirator. But it works real well. The primer will slow it down, I prefer to hand sand once I hit the primer.
