    Re: 63 license plate area

Frank, I agree with Tim on the small holes. When I bought my 63, the rear exhaust panel was off the car. The former owners Mother stepped on it and broke it in half. I still have pieces up in the attic. The one of the car now has the small holes.
Front license plate frame. GM listed it later in life as one that fits all. But it's unique as it has the small holes as Harry said.
The screws have a free spinning flat washer. Slotted head screw. Same screw front and rear. Hence the small plugs for the rear license plate.
This hardware came in a paper bag in the glove box.
Years ago we talked about this bag here. John

      Frank,

Don't forget the license bezel goes on before the light is installed. But yes you do have some filler work to be done first.

I did find the small hole front license plate bracket at Paragon....apparently a 63/64 deal; the later midyears used the big hole. Bubba at work I guess.
I already have the small plastic anchors and correct screws. PITA to glass in the reamed out rear anchor holes because they require a thin lip
for the anchor to catch. I'm pretty good mechanically - my bodywork skills - not so much (almost not at all)!

Maybe try some J&B weld to close the holes, I know that will never pull out. I had to change the rear tail light panel on my 63 and the service replacement has the larger square holes.

I'm gonna go with trying to glass it in as original. Required removing the rear valence and spare tire tub for rear access.
PITA because I had them off just a week or so ago. Life in the big city I guess.

Just keep in mind there is a line you cross where you can make a bigger mess than just using the larger square plastic push in nuts.

True - and I've crossed that line many times. But it IS in a hidden area so what the heck.
I had a fleeting thought just to epoxy the small anchors in place - its still on the table.

                  Frank -

With the license plate installed, you can't see the anchors.

I know John ... but somebody wallowed out the holes for the 'big' anchors and those won't hold the proper 63 license plate screw for '63 (* Ugh ! *).
Anyway....the raised round spots for the anchors are glassed in, sanded down and painted now....I'll install the proper (small) anchors tomorrow.
