    Brake Bleeding Question

I am just finished rebuilding the right rear caliper on my 65 coupe. I have removed the caliper 2 times to get it right. Each time I reinstalled the caliper I bled all 4 calipers. Everything is fine now but I was wondering if I'm just working on one caliper and I cap the disconnected line immediately so fluid loss is at a minimum, is it necessary to bleed all 4 calipers? Thanks in advance.

If it had been a while since the brakes had been worked on I would suggest bleeding all four anyway in order to get fresh fluid in the system. In your case, since you have recently repeatedly bled all four positions, further bleeding would seem like overkill. One would presume by now you have fresh fluid in your system.

Yes, I bled all 4 calipers twice. I was looking at the brakes line as I was installing the wheels and I got to thinking that maybe I didn't have to bleed all 4 calipers if I just work on one. In this case, overkill doesn't bother me. Just wondering. Thanks for the replies.

Bill, the trick is to don't let the fluid in the master run dry for the rears if you do then you'll have to re bleed the rears. I think if you leave the cap on the master cylinder it will slow down the fluid loss during replacement. have the line ready to go and you will be able to bleed the one caliper.

            just fyi ...

they make these really neat rubber hose pinching tools. I use them whenever I have to change out just one part on a brake system or when changing fuel line.
you just place them on the rubber hose and clamp them. does not hurt the rubber, unless of course they are really old hoses and sorta dry rotted.

sure beats using a pair of vice grips.. LOL
