    1967 L-79 Distributor Shaft

I'm in the process of blueprinting a 1111196 L-79 distributor and discovered during dis-assembly that the main shaft appears to be from a 300 hp engine. At least the football appears to be from 300 hp configuration based on my past experience and not the hi-perf shape. Does anyone have a source to buy the correct L-79 distributor hi-perf main shaft with the correct football?

    Thanks.

    Kenny,

Double check the service manual, I think the distributor centrifugal curves are the same in 1967 so the auto cam would be the same. Is it stamped something like #96?

They are the same for 1967. Only the vac can and the ID band are different on the distributor.

Initial advance setting is also different for the 300 and 350 HP cars. 6 degrees and 10 degrees BTDC , respectively

Here's an NOS main shaft [not for sale] for a 1967 L-79 distributor showing the shape of the auto cam. This cam is stamped "165" but other stampings may also have been used:

You don't really need to obtain one of these shafts to build a 1967 L-79 distributor. Someone with a distributor machine can re-configure other cams to match the characteristics and otherwise build the distributor to the exact original specifications.

Thanks everyone. It appears that I was mistaken thinking that the 300 hp and 350 hp had different auto cams. My existing cam should be fine and I have all of he other correct parts to complete the restoration.

As stated the fact that the 300 and 350 HP distributors have the same lazy centrifugal curve is a good indication that the shaft assy. - shaft, cam assy., weights and springs are the same.

The 350 HP dist. has a different VAC, but it's not optimum. Search for a thread started by me in Dec. 2012 about a "blueprint overhaul" of a '65 350 HP dist., which included optimizing the spark advance map per my 2012 National Convention presentation in San Diego, which is on the Web.

I also authored a Corvette Restorer article a few years ago on selecting a proper contact set based on the engine's maximum rev range.
