    C2 door hinge pin replacement

I have some up & down movement in my 67 convertible doors . My assumption is replacement of the hinge pins & bushings is the solution. Since I generally work alone & have a concern about completely removing the door to do this job, question is can one remove one hinge , preform the work , and re-install each hinge in turn ? Obviously , I would have to support the door during the time only one was installed. Is there a problem removing a hinge with the door essentially in a normal position? Seems like it might also be a little easier to get everything back in exactly the original position ? Anyone done this?
    THANKS

Ralph I dont think you can remove the hinge with the door on . If your door fits good now just drill a 1/8 " hole through the hinge ,shims,& door frame . Remove the door and when you reinstall the door just line up the holes with a pop rivet or 1/8" drill bit install your bolts and you will be very close to where you started . This save lots of time fitting the door .

Yes 'pinning the hinge' by drilling holes in it works well....it'll get you about 95% back to where you were....the other 5% is still on you! You can see the guide holes for the pins on my split window in this picture.

Some have "double bushed" the hinges by driving one bushing down (with the lip ground off) into the hinge and adding another on top of it. I didn't do that...I found the repro hinge pins were too small - I wound up using Dorman 38400 bushings and pins.

Before you dive into the hinges -- make sure that the rivets at the front of the door are in good shape and nt loose...

The doors will have to be removed. If the store bought kits are not getting it done take the hinges to a machine shop and let them machine the bushing and pin to close tolerance. They can machine the pin to the same length and knurl it at the top like the original. This will be a good time to clean the hinge of the old grease and regrease. The hinges are a good place to start to eliminate movement. When mating the door back to the hinge, place some shim stock of some sort around the primeter of the door and adjust to it.
