    1967 Wiper Motor removal

I removed the 4 screws that attach the pump.....and dropped one onto the bellhousing, two days later I still haven't found it although I'm sure I will figure something out.

I then detached the two wiper arms that connect to the motor under the dash, and proceeded to remove three of four screws attaching the motor to the front panel. I only removed three as I have yet to find the fourth. However I am getting to be quite certain that while I can see the fourth hole for the screw no screw was in there. The motor does not budge, wiggle, lift at a corner.....nothing. Its like it was bonded to the panel. Since I would like to remove the motor without damaging the panel, I'm stumped as to how.

The body is on the frame and the engine is in and the car is sitting on all four tires. The heater system, glove box, and clock are out.

Anyone have any solutions? I am unable to get a putty knife between the panel and the motor as the location of the motor prohibits it from the motor side and I don't know what I could used from the interior side.

Don , I have had mine in and out a couple of times in the last year, as I restored it and installed it without bench testing it, and had to remove it to fix it . That last bolt is hard to get at with the dash in place, I would think that it is there if the wiper motor will not move, because the only thing holding it in place are those 4 bolts, if they are all out it could just be the gasket that has seized to the firewall after all these years, if you are sure all the bolts are out, I would just grab it and yank it out of there, from the front.

All of the screws are out. Al four holes for screws are visible. I removed the jute insulation from around the wiper motor.

I am going to try to re-install a couple of the screws by just a few threads and see if I can tap on them with a very small hammer. I also have a 90* bent awl to try and get between the motor and the panel from the interior side. I will also be removing the defroster vent for a bit more room. After that, perhaps some C4

The pump currently has a black plastic pump instead of white/off white. Which vendor has the most close to OEM?

Don , have you tried just reefing on the unit from the engine compartment side? I'm sure it will break loose, as for the plastic piece, I went through that as well and as far as I know , nobody makes an exact replacement, but those assemblies were used on a million different Chevys , you might be able to find one for parts at an auto wrecker or eBay

          Don,

Steve Hackel makes a replacement pump and it is the most exact on the market today. It's made an off white just like an aged original. He can be reached at 1 708 687-4183.

            Joe,
I am very familiar with Steve Hackel, he restored my headlight motors long before I joined VHs and made your acquaintance. Lives about 20 minutes or so from me.

The motor is now out of the car. The rubber isolating mounting cushions and the foam seal had bonded themselves to the panel, with one mount missing its metal nut.

I have tested the motor and the results are:
              Low speed - good
              High speed - good
Stopping and parking - sometimes it wont shut off and park. I have checked the operation of the relay arm & stop latch and both are free to move, so I am guessing the problem might be in the relay contacts. Oh joy, no one sells the relay coil and contacts.

How can I check the operation of the washer pump electrically? There are two contacts for it, which is 12v and which is ground? The washer currently has a black plastic pump valve assembly on it, BUT I found my original.
