    63 radio antenna question

What was the original part number for the radio antenna on a 63 ? How does one identify an original & is there a later part number that would be correct? Thanks for any help !

In PRODUCTION it was GM #3820663 but this part number was never available in SERVICE as far as I can tell. In SERVICE it was known as GM #985658. I believe the latter was a kit which included the 3820663 antenna assembly + other associated parts. I'm not sure if the 3820663 part number appeared anywhere on the antenna assembly. I kind of doubt it but it's possible.

Ralph, The GM replacement antennas for 63 will not re-track all the way down , on the originals, each mast section is suppose to slide all the way down until it meets the next section and will be about 15 inch tall when all sections are clasped. I hope that explains it correctly.

That may be true of later GM SERVICE replacements. However, I'm not so sure it's true of the 985658.

A few years ago I restored my 63 and brought a NOS antenna in a package just the antenna there was no gaskets or the chrome nut. and found out later that the GM replacement looked great but was judged as a service replacement. At the time The package was a paper wrap and was the typical Blue and White which I think was a 80's packaging?

Not sure what I have on the split window....it has 4 sections, the top section with the ball will seat completely into its next lower counterpart, I don't think the other, lower sections do. It's more than 15" when stowed completely down...

Frank, This is what I have on my 63. Its looks like a GM re-issue . On the factory originals it Clasps all the way down and as Joe says there was at one time a correct GM replacement.

The '922 is a wonderful Antenna for a '63 Corvette. Retracts to about 13-9/16" It extends to 53-3/4" approx.
Seems there were thousands of these made for service. John
