Re: destination charge
The destination charge on my 1965 was $102.75. That should be close to 1964 charges.- Top

Re: destination charge
I wonder if any members have included such a charge, when putting their dealer inf. on the place where NCRS keeps dealer zones and codes?
It's called "dealer code data" and is listed under member services.https://MichiganNCRS.org

Re: destination charge
Jim Durham is correct. I don't know for sure what year it was but destination charges were included under the fair trade laws and were "averaged" out over the country so that dealers closer to the plants would not have an advantage over dealers who were farther away. Also it discouraged customers from wanting to bring their cars home from Detroit in an effort to save the freight. If you do arrange for a factory delivery...you are will be charged the same destination charge as a dealer in California. As I say, I can't say for sure when that was put into effect but as I remember it was in effect when I went to work for G.M. in 1968.- Top

Re: destination charge
I ordered a new 62 ten miles from the St Louis plant as the crow flies. ( Granite City, Il )
When I picked up the new car it had 18 miles on the speedo.
I suspect that My salesman picked up the car at plant and drove it to the Dealership ( 340 SHP 4 speed )..Who could blame him.- Top

Re: destination charge
Why didn't you do a plant delivery? There was no charge for it back then, and you saved the shipping charge.
I think it was the teamsters who forced the industry to adopt flat rate delivery charge (even across the street to the Corvette Museum nowadays), and it went into effect sometime in the late sixties to early seventies.
Before that, plant delivery was popular and offered by most plants. Many who lived within a day's travel of the plant opted for it. Today, I think the only "plant delivery" is Corvette, but the actual delivery is at the Museum and you pay both the full shipping charge and an additional charge for Museum delivery.

Duke...I was only slightly Dumber than i am now....i think i had opportunity to watch the build also...I didn't feel that watching a car build was worth missing work...after all.... I had $ 65 a month payments and 32 cents a gallon gas to look forward too- Top
