    '61 Hood Value Help

We are working on a '61 Corvette that we intend to sell. It had three hoods. Two are stock hoods and one is a modified hood. We stripped the two stock hoods and did a bit of work to clean them up. We are going to prime both and plan to sell one with the car and the second separate.
My question is as regards the value of the second hood. It is a stock hood and is very nice as the photos show. Can you folks give me some guidance as to the value of a stock hood?
The third hood is also a stock hood that had some sort of custom top bonded on. We are going to cut that off and put a new stock top on that one too (I think one can buy a top skin?)
    Thanks,
    Mike

Too many variables to get an answer here. It's usually a supply and demand thing. If a person needs one to complete a project it is worth a lot more than if he just. wants a spare. Do some research, follow hoods on e-bay, go to swap meets, check with the vendors that sell used parts. This is suppose to be a tech forum, not a used parts store.

Just as a follow up, back in the old days if you had a few spare parts you tried to trade them for parts that you needed. Now days most people just want to make as much money off them as possible. I watch this change happen in the Antique Wooden boat hobby and it has come to pass in our hobby as well. So much for progress!

        Terry,

Many of our members ask for and receive helpful feedback regarding various topics that are not strictly 'technical'. The moderators recognize this and generally leave the postings alone if they don't violate the spirit of the hobby. Mike knows this isn't 'a used parts store' so try to give him the same courtesy that many other members receive here when they post 'non tech' subjects. Once he gets a handle on the value, he intends on posting in the classified ads like others have done in the past.

If you reread my post I think I gave him sound advice. How can you tell someone what a part is worth without seeing it. You should know as well as anyone parts are worth different values to different people. (Another thing I believe I mentioned.) I have to wonder how " he gets a handle on the value"? Just because someone hear posts it's worth $400, is it really? I'm surprised that as an old member you don't realize that too many times people ask questions without even thinking of doing any research on their own. Do you want to be responsible for telling him what his hood is worth? This board has been a great help to me and many others and will continue to be so, I hope! If you think I was out of line maybe there should be a strict set of rules we have to follow in answering posts. I try to give advice whenever I can on topics I know about. In the many years I have been on the forum I have seen very very few people give advice as to what a part is worth. In closing I noticed you didn't hesitate to call me out but you didn't offer him any advice, why is that?

The value of the hoods is what the market will bear. If you drop a ramjet or some other modified engine/induction system that doesn't fit under the hood and you don't want to modify your hood, a modified, damaged, repaired or otherwise custom might be just the ticket.

              Terry,

There are a few points to be made regarding this thread:

The main point I was trying to make was that a lot of posts are not strictly technical and all of us moderators are flexible on subject matter.

I did offer very specific advice to Mike but did it via a PM.

I agree with your response regarding value and there was no intention to make anyone feel 'called out' so please don't take it personally.

Mike has asked to have the thread deleted but I'll just close it so members can see our replies.
