    1963 Correct Hubcap Screw?

I'm in the process of reconditioning my early frosted 1963 hubcaps. I ended up with four different screws!! All have the same threads, #1 has an 1/8 inch head w/a 'c' on it, the other 3 have 5/16 heads; #2 blank head, #3 an 'E' and #4 three circles. Which is correct for my application? Thank you, Hugh

    Hugh,

I have both 1st design and 2nd design frosted caps with the 5/16. All the 5/16" heads are of the design you outline BUT they are the same for each screw per hubcap. I have the second design cap polished with the 1/8 inch head #1.
Hope this helps you sort out your hubcap problem.
I suggest you contact the NCRS Team Leader for the 63-64 class. His information can be found in "The Restorer".

Greg, I have a set of early hub caps and a set of late ones, early ones have a 1/4 screw heads and laters have 5/16 heads.

Thanks for the quick reply. I was unaware of the fact that there was two 'frosted' designs. My car is quite early (Vin#..0645) so it probably has the first but?? Can you explain the differences?? Hugh

          Hugh,

The difference is in the edge of the rim. Earlier frosted caps have a thick rim and later caps have a thin rim where it is rolled over. Earlier caps tend to bend around the edges when popped off with the lug wrench. Polished caps have the thinner rim.
