    Heater Core

When reinstalling the heater core in my '67 vert, no air, is there any kind of rubber isolator between the heater core and the metal mounting plate?
What color should the retaining straps be, mine look to have remnants of black?
What should the straps attaching screws look like, zinc plated?
Does a "C" shaped foam seal get glued to the heater core retaining plate and inner box?
My new replacement will have to be stretched to fit properly.

Don, That C shaped seal goes inside the interior against the firewall after the box is installed. This thread should assist.

I made a diagram of the seal arrangement from a AIM scan and colored it up in MS Paint. Not perfectly readable but better than the AIM. It's in Post#16.

As far as the metal plate, no gasket. Metal to fiberglass. But I like to add some 3M strip caulk for a better seal. The screws I've removed had traces of zinc but I just put any color paint that's handy to protect them before reinstallation.

About halfway into this post I have photos there that could help with reassembly.

I agree with Rich , My 65 must of had a package of strip caulk on the metal plate and all other sealing areas . Bill

        Rich,
In the thread about the 67 Body lift, you showed some pix of the outer box installed onto the firewall.

The attaching nuts look like a type of a large brimmed speed nut, correct or not? Mine had this type of speed nut.

Are the retainers for the heater core plate original? Mine are MIA.

Hi Don, Sorry I was away for a few days up in cold country, just got back.....

The large nuts are Pal nuts, which I believe are originals. The round retainers I used are not original. They do however get covered so I was okay with that. I think I have photos of originals from a original '67 heater box I did a few years ago but on another computer and will check in the morning.

I was thinking of just using some C clips to hold the core plate to the box for installation.

Don, Here are the photos of the original on another '67. Original push clips were rectangular 1/4" thread application.(4th photo)

You can get them at your local hardware store. They install over the studs after the plate but before the foam seal. Other pics for reference. The core was reused after I had it flow and pressure tested. I like to use originals as long a they pass the radiator shop test. This car was a early '67.
