Re: avation fuel
If was actually ethanol that made your fittings leak, they were way past their best-before dates. Any decent fuel system component made in the last 20+ years is ethanol compatible.- Top

Re: avation fuel
Greg,
There are a lot of commercial gas stations in the US that sell ethanol-free gas. I noticed from your profile that you are in Maryland. There are at least 40 gas stations in Maryland that sell ethanol-free gas. A lot of them sell 93 octane or higher, either racing fuel or aviation gas. I've included a link to the list of gas stations that sell ethanol free gas in Maryland at the end of my comment. The name of the website is "Pure Gas". You can look up ethanol free gas stations for any state. Also, you might find this useful. There is a Pure Gas app for smart phones and it is GPS based - so, as you drive along in your classic Corvette it will always list the nearest ethanol free gas station from where you are at any given moment.

Re: avation fuel
I have a simple airplane which means it has a fuel system much like a vintage corvette. It only runs 100 LL for the past ten years with no leaks. We can't get ethanol free gas here so when I drive a lot in the summer I use mostly pump 93 in the two cars I have with no issues. This time of year I try to get mostly 100 LL in them because they are going to sit for long periods. I have had leaks here and there but there is no correlation with a leak to what kind of fuel is being used.
On thing to consider is that the blue dye in 100 LL makes small leaks much more visible because of the stain it leaves

Re: avation fuel
For convenience I have 110 octane VP leaded fuel delivered in a 55 gal. drum. I use this in a 60' FI and have no problems since making the change from ethanol pump blend. Down side is of course long trips, over the past two years I have carried extra fuel but at some point I will have to see how the unit runs pump fuel. My opinion and observation-I do not have the peculation and starting problems with 110 octane that I did with ethanol pump fuel.- Top

Re: avation fuel
Thanks All, this all started when i had 150 gallons of gas in a boat go bad and the deal it was to fix it. So when my 66 sits till april I did not want this to happen. But the avation fuel ran out of the fuel pump and across the garage floor, carb leaked and filled up manifold and it was hard to start. Drained it like i said and it all went away. I may try 93 non ethanol gas from a marina if i can find it.- Top

Re: avation fuel
The majority of the "boat gas" available here in central Florida has progressively been reduced in octane rating over the last few years. When I started using it in around 2011, it was rated at 92 octane. Then, in about 2012 or 13, it was dropped to 90 octane. Now, with the influx of many Wa Wa stations, it is much more readily available, but in only 89 octane rating. It doesn't matter too much to me as I just have had to change my formula of TEL octane booster. The Wa Wa stuff is a lot cheaper than what the 92 used to be, much of that is of course the across the board drop in prices. I can live with out the corn gas and all the problems I experienced with it in my SHP 63.

Re: avation fuel
Been using it since 1990 with no issues.
Story: My vendor trailer has a generator. At Corvette Carlisle it's typically very hot. When the generator would ran out of gas/ethanoll it was very difficult to start. Meanwhile I would be dying in the trailer. Two years ago I switched to 100LL for the generator. It was like it could talk. Just purred like a brand new generator. When it ran out of 100LL and was refilled it started immediately.
My son and I put it in everything around the shop/house that has an engine. Except for a car with a cat. converter.
Smells sweet so it does. I also test FI's with it. The blue leak detector makes it very easy to find a leak.- Top
