'63 shifter

Hi all. I'm wanting to disassemble, clean, blast and paint??? black??? my b/w 4-speed trans shifter. My car was built mid-December 1962. i searched the forums' db and couldn't find any threads on the rebuild/ restoration. Wondering whether to leave it bare or paint (if so, what color).
Also, any 'gotchas' I should look out for?

Irby,

Look at the shifter carefully and you should find that the shifter is cad plated and not painted. Everything but the shift levers, springs and pins were cad plated or chrome plated. There are two pins you need to remove the disassemble the whole shifter. One at the bottom of the cover on the reverse lockout and one near the bottom of the shaft. Really simple. All you need is someone to do the cad and chrome plating.

has anyone used Caswell's Copy Cad Kit? How much plating can I get done with their 1.5 gallon kit?
