    thanks,

IIRC, the originals were not aluminum or aluminum coated, they were carbon steel, like all C2 exhaust systems.

Don't think it was available in 63 model run. Carbon steel pipes.

I also don't know what that means on a C2; on a C1 (my '61 has them) it is the round instead of oval mufflers, and, with the right engine, is one of the best sounds to ever emanate from the rear end of a classic Corvette IMO...

Assume we are talking about the N11, off road, exhaust system. Although the parts book lists these available for 63 the 63AIM does not. The back section, from cross member to exhaust tip, is the same part number (3845735/6) for 63-67. Very nice setup and as said "best sound"

I have an NOS off road exhaust setup on my '64 L76, a very sweet sound front and back!

              Re: aluminized off road exhaust

N-11 was not released during the '63 MY even though it was listed as an option.

When released in '64 the N-11 pipes did not have the "kickouts" required to fit early '63s with the deep wells under the seats. It may fit late '63s with shallow wells.

Original exhaust pipes were not aluminized.

"Reproduction" pipes both with and without the kickouts are available in both plain steel and aluminized. Also, some vendors sell "N-11" mufflers that can be clamped or welded to '63 kickout rear pipes.

Original exhaust systems featured the rear pipe welded to the muffler input. GM replacement base mufflers were designed to clamp to the rear pipe, however, the N-11 system was available through service parts as a welded rear pipe section to muffler assembly, which was the same assembly that was used in production.

Would like to hear from those who judge 1963 Corvettes and even the Team Leader. I have seen examples of the 1963 first design N-11 exhaust systems. Second design also. Maybe someone had them made but they sure looked factory made.

JR, I put s set of N11's from Gardner on my 63 last year, no rust just great sound. I'll probably take a hit at the 2016 National but I can live with it.

                  Cheers

Was the purpose of this off road exhaust system just for sound and no rust?

For me, yes it was. I drive my 63's and I like to keep them looking good.

Did you black out the exhaust system?

Just the sides of the mufflers. I believe this was done originally so a customer/owner looking at the car from the side just saw the car and was not distracted by a shiny or rusty muffler.

Chevrolet Production records list NO N-11 option installed on the "63 Corvette.

And where can these records be seen? Be very interested in new sources of information if available.
