58 side glass date stamp, read from inside or outside?

Maybe dumb question, putting in my 58 side glass, does the date code stamped wording read correct from the inside of the car or from the outside? Thanks.

I think it reads differently based on if right or left. I.E. they were all etched on the same side, so if on the left it'll read one way, but on the right side it'll read from the opposite side.

I think midyear side glass and vent window glass are the same as above. Not sure about the shark cars.

      I may be wrong.....

I agree with Rich and Mike...........

When I went out and looked at the 58 last night, I only looked at the passenger side window (dr side was rolled down).

Just went out and rolled up the dr side and it reads right from the outside.

          Sorry for the misinformation.....

Thanks for confirming that Tom. I was a little tired and way to lazy to go out to the garage and check my '59.

Your new ifo also confirms it even better......

Pass Side reads from the Inside

Drvr Side reads from the Outside

So.....I just checked the '67 in here now too......Same way. At least the vent windows. I can't roll up the sideglass, they're A31 PW's and electrical is not together yet.

              Thanks a lot.

Now, I have the glass tape from Eckler's, and it looks correct, rubber on one side and cloth like surface on the other side.

I have read glass install instructions where it states to put the rubber / sticky side on the glass and the cloth like side to slide into the window frame. But, in removing my original glass, I find the original glass tape pieces, it indicates the factory put the cloth like side around the glass and the rubber side into the frame. Old pieces I have are curved from the old glass and the concave inside is the cloth like material.

              So, any thoughts?

                Doug,

My '59 has the cloth side on the frame. Black seal against the glass, cloth against the frame.

                ...from outside looking in.

Thanks Rich. Interesting, makes sense thinking you would stick the rubber sticky tape to the glass and slide the cloth like side into the frame. The windows I pulled apart are from a 58 that was bought in 1968, so I have to imagine they were stock factory.

By the way if it is of any interest, I first had the Paragon rubber both sides tape, was too thick and gummy. It measured 1/16 " and I had read where the original material was 3/64". So, Corvette Central has the correct material (rubber / cloth like side) but it is 1/16". So, I found Eckler's, for full size Chevy 1958-72 glass tape (correct material) that measures 3/64". So, I am working with the correct material @ 3/64" thick. Hope I will wind up fitting well and looking correct.

I'd like to see some pictures of that product when you get a chance. I can't find it on Eckler's site in any category. What's the part #?

                    Thanks,

If you go the their web site they offer about 5 different thicknesses. Only issue is it looks like you have to buy a 100 foot roll.
