    1963 Glove Box Door

How do you tell if you have an original ?

I found some old paperwork on my split window where it says mine was replaced in the '70s...

I looked at the latest JG for '63 and the information is pretty sparse for this part...

My comments are for the door only not the frame.

As far as I know there were two different doors. The early door accommodated the 64 to 67 style lock and the later door accommodated the 63 lock with the large chrome bezel. The doors and locks were not interchangeable. I don't know what the cutoff was from first design to second design. But Never say Never with a Corvette. I've seen an April car with the first design door and lock.

Anyway, if you have a very early VIN number I would expect to see the first design door, 64-67 style lock.

Can you post pictures of the front and back. The rivets, etc.

Does the door have these characteristics?

I have a Trim Parts door in one of my cars but I can't look at it till the afternoon.

Got the car early. Picture 1, the Trim Parts door has a black metal component where the rod attaches and goes through the frame. Also, the Trim Parts piece is smooth. As you can see the original is natural metal and has a circular bump-out in the center.

        Cheers

I'll look later today when I can get the car off the lift - doing a little chassis clean up ! Thanks !

My door looks just like those pictures and is unpainted on the back which I understand is correct for late '63 cars -

I thought all original '63 GB doors came from St Louis already cracked from the final prep worker loading the GB with the paperwork and slamming the door shut.

How could yours be original if it's not cracked?

Built on a Monday afternoon, during hunting season, the car was put together largely by the secretarial staff at St. Louis. Agnes Typesalot, the plant manager's assistant, substituting for Bubba (Sharpshooter) Hazard and Billy Bob Wollington, (the two normal glove box door crackers) carefully typed up the paperwork and placed it lovingly in the box of Harry's car... Then she went to the paint booth to spray the seldom hit rocker panels of mine..

PS, calm down you politically correct types, by "crackers", I meant the guys who both pushed on the door to "crack it"
