Pulsation in Head Lights... 67 Coupe

just curious how to correct a pulsation in the lights.

I know the alternator is fine... zero issues with output etc..
all the grounds are in place and clean.
    battery is relatively new.

on a 10si I would change out the internal regulator to fix this.

is the only option to send out my very old and original VR and have to restored?

is there a solid state version available that I can use on the car, that looks correct and has updated internals?

    thanks in advance,
    Bill

You yourself can clean the points and readjust the regulator.

If you drive your car a lot the solid state regulator is the way to go.

      gene,

who can i get a solid state regulator from?
the repro parts places seem to have original types...

then I can do a refurb on the original one...

NAPA(and I'm sure others) sells the solid state regulator, my local store had one in stock, I carry one in my glove box. You can put the original cover on it and it looks somewhat correct. I'm with Gene though, clean the points and re adjust your old one before you do anything else.

A VR-715 solid state regulator is available nearly anywhere for about $24.
The repro mechanical regulators are crummy and non-adjustable from what I've seen.

Bill, 3 years ago I had my original regulator sent out and had it restored and put the electronic conversion, I believe his name was Bill Caldwell. and it comes back looking new and all plated.

FYI - just in case its a judged car I've heard varying opinions on the solid state V/R.
Some say it operates in a 'jerky' manner and is detectable and costs points.....others say that's not the case.
I really can't tell any difference in my '63 solid state V/R's operation but others might - just so ya' know...

i put the solid state VR in today. all pulsation gone in the lights. plus seems to do a better job of charging.

Thanks for all the great input.

Bill is the pulsation in all the headlights or just one? You might want to check the headlamps.
