Date Code Format and Location on the R59S Battery

I have not been able to find a description of the date code format and expected location on the R59S. Specifically, my car was assembled in early October of '68.

Hopefully someone on the forum can help but if not might want to give the folks at restoration battery a call, they offer this service so possibly may have the answer you're looking for.

Thanx Don, that was the information I was looking for. It appears the date format changed for later service replacements. Here is a pic of a 1977 over the counter replacement R59S I have. A "9" appears on the negative post side (-) and "F7N" appears on the positive post side (+). The paperwork and labels on the battery indicate it was made in 1977.

Note: on the bottom is another heat stamp that reads "296Z"

Floyd,
This may be too little /too late but here is a photo of the battery from my Oct. '68. It is a lead acid reproduction from Reproduction Battery purchased around 2008. Hope this helps.

Even on an original battery, the date can be changed.
