1965 Power Brake Booster - Restore or Replace with a Reproduction ??

CCSB reproduces what looks like a nice dated booster with the appropriate part number for around $250. I have found a decent original with the proper stamping and date that I could have restored. Looking for thoughts on which way to go. If restoration is the solution who is the best source.?
Thanks in advance for any ideas.

I think "Booster Dewey" is the one many use. I never heard a bad report. You could call him and check on the cost of a restoration.

I would probably go with restored original if the cost factor was not prohibitive.................and I don't think it will be.

Booster Dewey is reasonable. I think my 67 was about $200 including new chromate coloring.

When given the choice, I always go with restoring the original part.
Tried a repro booster on a '68 with power brakes and it didn't even fit.
Went with Booster Dewey restoring the old one and was glad that I did.

                Russ and all that replied,
i agree with always restoring an original part, if possible. I was able to secure the correct original dated/part # stamped Booster for a sensible price. With the restoration cost of $200 + and the cost of the core itself it will finally cost about 75% more than the CSSB reproduction. This is one of those decisions that most likely will not gain any judging points but my car needs the proper original part. Thanks for all the recommendations. I'm having Booster Dewey do the restoration.

Dave, if the reproduction is made in china I don't think an answer is required......

Are you going to drive the car a substantial number of miles?

                  Brakes are nice to have.

My guess is that many chassis judges may not be able to tell the difference between a reproduction booster and an original. Just a guess on my part. My car does not have driving in its future so this exercise is all about originality.

Dave, you are probably right on first guess statement. And if no driving is in it's future, brakes are no big concern. So go with originality and do up the one you have. That seems to be the direction you would prefer from reading your reply.

Dave I think you made the right choice. As you can see many Booster Dewey fans in the NCRS and for good reason.

Steve Gregori has done a couple for me (66 Vette, 70 Cutlass) which have been excellent.

My only complaint about the one done I had by Booster Dewey for a 72 is that they used entirely the wrong black paint, and I had to strip it and repaint it. Of course, that's not a problem with a 65.
