    Rear Shock Plate Stud Comparison

Quite a few years ago during chassis chassis dis-assembly, I managed to break off one of the shock plate studs. Not a big deal, ordered a new one p/n 581020 from CC and had it welded in place. At the time I didn't give the other much thought and should have ordered a second stud at the same time.

Now looking at the two plates I am curious why the CC stud, which is about 2 1/2" in length from the plate with fine thread is different from the old one which is 3 1/2" in length with course thread.

It makes me wonder which is correct for 62?

    Eric-------

I think the "original" stud pictured here is not original, at all. I think it represents some sort of field repair or modification. Among other reasons is the fact that lower rear shock mounts always used 1/2-20 fine thread from 1953 right through 1982.

Thanks Joe, I wasn't sure since the old stud has a similar shoulder end as the replacement. I thought that possibly the plate might have come from a passenger car and was swapped out. In the 60's someone put high lift springs in it so it could have been done then. The old stud was worn and I knew it needed replacement. Just wanted to make sure I used the correct one. Eric

        Eric------

1955-57 passenger cars used the same plates as 1956-59 Corvette. Passenger cars did not use these plates after 1957.

Could it be from an earlier passenger car (e.g. 49-54)? I suppose that's possible but I doubt it.

          Joe,

As long as I know what it is supposed to be I guess there is no need to dwell on what it isn't.

          Thanks for your help! Eric
