    1965 hubcaps & Spinners

I know they were replaced after they were stolen in the 60's- owner told me she purchased at Chevrolet dealer.

how do I know they are not knock-offs?

I took them apart- the spinners seem to be fairly heavy.

    Any thoughts here?

    Re: 1965 hubcaps

As stated before in your previous post, if the spinner holds the wheel on they are knock offs. A hubcap (with a spinner) attaches to a painted steel wheel. Please be clear with your terminology and question. Do you want to know if you have knock offs or hubcaps OR do you want to know if what you have is original???

Mike, My '65 wheel covers were stolen in early 1966. The dealer ordered me a set of '65 covers and a set of 66 came in instead. Remember it well. If memory serves me right they came in without the correct spinner. Some round poc in it's place. John

Here's mine: the ornamental spinner on the left; weight 13.5 oz.; the real Knock Off spinner on the right weighs 3.2 lbs.

Enclosed are pictures of my hubcaps and spinners.

            Are they authentic or Repro's?

            thanks everyone for your help

You seem to be missing the "cap" that goes over the cap emblem plastic. I don't know if the repros use that "cap" or not.

I suspect that someone many moons ago replaced the inserts. I remember buying the 3899365 horn caps (67) and removing the inserts to use on spinners. I noticed that the upper left block of the flag was white, and that is the way they used to come in the horn buttons. As I recall, they were less than $4.00! Lots of folks would glue them in place and not re-install the emblem retainer.
