Looking for the correct interior paint. Is there no metallic in this paint? Where to buy it, brand and part number. Thanks in advance.

Re: 1963 Daytona Blue interior paint
Hi Jerry, I have a 63 with the dark blue interior and was unable to match the interior color with any of the available dies. If you die everything then there's no problem but it's just the slight differences that show up like a sore thumb in some places. For instance my original dash pads look good but the speaker grill had to be re-dyed and the die lacks the purplish tint of the dash. If you did the dash, too you wouldn't notice it but then there's the seats, door panels, etc. Others have had the die made up by paint specialists.
I imagine the originals might vary from car to car, year to year, too.
Good luck with it.

Re: 1963 Daytona Blue interior paint
On a 63 the metal was painted with lacquer and the non metal was painted with dye. Check with Tower Paints in Wisconsin as they have the formulas.
Check the archives, there have been several posts on this topic.

Re: 1963 Daytona Blue interior paint
Harry is correct. The metal parts other than the lower window molding trim are painted 60% gloss with a metallic paint. The fiberglass parts and the lower windshield trim are painted with a 30% gloss in the metallic paint but the low gloss hides most of the metallic. The soft parts will be a different shade due to them being molded in vinyl.- Top

Re: 1963 Daytona Blue interior paint
Has anyone been able to match the dark blue vinyl using Tower paints? Mine's a convertible who's only metal is lower windshield trim. I spent a lot of time trying to get the color match for the vinyl and got nowhere, so I left the original parts untouched and painted the metal and fiberglass with the so called dye. It looks ok (only)- Top

Re: 1963 Daytona Blue interior paint
Hey Joe,
I understand but the colors of the fiberglass and the door panels, for instance, were very close on the original parts. They are not close at all now because I had to "paint" some of the parts due to wear and tear and could not come close with the color. I'll show you next spring..- Top

Re: 1963 Daytona Blue interior paint
Joe, quite interesting concerning the metallic in the 63-64 dark blue interior paint. I matched mine 20 some years ago and it had metallic in it. Now being told to leave the metallic out or lose points. It could be because they use to large of metallic, the old stuff is very small and hard to see inside the car. What you described is what I matched 20 years ago. I also took my original door panels and had it matched for a vinyl paint but that color is controversial also.- Top
