Restoring the black

For me it's good news, bad news -- Good news is so far it looks as though I will be able to use my original dash panels. The bad news is that in order to clean the gooey crud off the black surfaces the Goof Off (mineral spirits) I used took off some of the black finish. Any one out there know what I can/should use to restore the black?????

The regular C2 vendors make an interior stain and I used it on my 63 dash and the result was pretty good. I think I used Corvette America's stain. Black is an easy color to match so it will probably look good.

Hi Rey,
I'm surprised the Goof-Off removed the color in the vinyl.
Are these dash panels that were originally black or were they another color that were re-dyed at some point? I've seen the color removed from the parts of the interior that were hard plastic and colored (like the shifter console, kick panels for instance), but not the vinyl parts like the dash pads.
People report good results with using SEM interior dye. You need to follow surface preparation suggestions carefully, but will likely be pleased with the results.

I had excellent results with SEM Landau Black dye. I had to dye an now raw plastic e brake console, touch up the kick panels, and re-spray the compartment door frame.

I experimented with a couple extra soft parts and the results were excellent too.

HI Alan,

I only experimented with a small damaged dash piece and lacquer thinner seemed to work okay. I was removing black from a black dash pad.

I think I saw the green door panels. I also think the big challenge would be getting the dye out of the Comfort weave like textured area on each panel.

Yes, it's a shame they've been dyed.
It's quite rare to see an unused/never mounted pair of door panels in that condition.

Given your level of creativity I feel pretty confident you could get them cleaned up. If there was a tiny bit of green in the textured area a little carefully applied black dye might do the trick.
