I am repainting my fan shroud after repairs. The color seems glossier than the usual Krylon 1613 trim and blackout semi-flat. I don't think it has been repainted previously. The judging manual mentions "semi-flat" which seems to be a reference to Krylon nomenclature. Any opinions on whether 1613 is correct?

Re: 67 BB Fan Shroud Color
Patrick,
The one I bought from the dealer in 1971 was not painted but after repairing it last year I mixed a batch of paint and I would say it was semi flat.

Re: 67 BB Fan Shroud Color
Dom-----Was your paint mix shinier than Krylon 1613. My thought is than the shroud should be a little shinier than the surrounding blackout but not as shiny as the radiator. Most of us have painted all of the above during a restoration, what was your approach? I'll probably never have my car judged since I used L89 heads on a L-71, but I would like to do my engine compartment in the same colors as judged cars because it is easy to do now.- Top

Re: 67 BB Fan Shroud Color
Patrick,
I bought my shroud from the dealer in 1971 because mine was toast when I bought the car. In the years it cracked at the corners. It was bare glass and when I did my frame off on my 67. I did the glass repair and painted it so it would not show it was repaired, I used some filler and sanded it to hide the repairs.
Now to answer your question. I used a flattening agent in acrylic enamel and did bring the gloss just above flat. Sorry but I only saw pictures of things sprayed with 1613. I always thought the shroud was supposed to be natural glass. My repairs & paint took a few days. The repo shrouds did not have the lip on the edges like the original replacements and that's why I repaired mine.
My shroud had the part #s on each piece but didn't have the hole to cool the alt on the drivers side. I chose not to cut the hole in mine and left it the same as it was when I bought it at the dealer.
