Rookie here with another Tank Sticker question on my 72 convertible

I was reading about Reiner Obersts' purchase of 1970 LT1 and the discussion about the tank sticker. I can't believe how much I've learned form this board. I have what has always been referred to as a "build sheet". I will post some pictures of it but it is very thin and the back side is purple, almost like it is paper on one side and carbon copy paper on the other. I was told it was found under the seat when my dad was having the carpet replaced about 10 years ago. Is this a copy of the tank sticker, and if the tank has never been removed could the original still be there. I know the only way to know is to pull the tank but was curious if copies really were stashed other places inside the car.

Sorry for the edit of this post....dropped lap top while typing. It always makes it worse when you try to catch it and it goes flying over the couch.

Looks like the VIN of you car is reversed on the lower right of the second picture. Pretty common on later 72 tank stickers. The numbers appear to be 509698.

Yes, tank stickers have shown up in other places...behind the dash panel, stuffed in frame rails, so I guess under the carpet is also possible.

Your pictures are of the Corvette Order Copy (sales document). The same info could have been glued to the gas tank, thus the term "tank sticker".
The build sheet format changed in 1973, GM called it a "manifest broadcast sheet".
You might be able to move the rubber fuel filler seal back far enough to look down at the top of the tank to see if the sheet (tank sticker) is still there. I heard that some guys do that. Yes, copies were stashed in other areas like behind the dash, under seats or carpets(like yours). If you have an interest in build sheets I would suggest you checkout Tom Russo's book "Corvette Buildsheet Book: A study guide for 73-82 Build Records. He is an NCRS member and the book can be purchased in the NCRS store.

Hi Rick,
I believe your photos illustrate something I noticed over the years…. a build sheet that's found in the interior of a car is often in better condition than one found on the tank.
Not only is it cleaner as one might expect, but also, there was no glue used to secure it in place as with the sheet on the tank. That smear of glue often has had a harmful effect on that area of the sheet which when in the center of the sheet can make deciphering the information difficult.

I'm curious about the last item….. Seat & Shoulder 3 Point….…, I understand the shoulder belt was an option on convertibles but it appears to have been written by hand?

Could have been left off the original typed order & corrected or dealer had it added before production.

Alan, there was a thread on this a few weeks ago. I believe the conclusion was that it denotes the existence of a seat belt buzzer. (Seems like we have had a lot of questions on that lately.) Rick's car is a December build so that would fit in with the buzzer addition.

You are correct Reba, yes, my car does have the seat belt buzzer. Also, I have always thought it was weird to have that hand written notation, "seat and shoulder 3 point", at the bottom of the build sheet. It seems redundant because in the middle of the sheet one of the listed items is, "custom deluxe front shoulder belt" Doesn't this denote the same item???
