    72 Key Warning Buzzer Location

My car does not have any buzzers with the key in or from the seat belts. I'm guessing the buzzer has been removed or disabled. Where do I look to find the buzzer?

    Thanks

    Jeff,
I believe on the 72 it is between the speedo and tach just below the dash pad. Going to a pain to get to! Good luck

Good news and bad news. The good news is the buzzer, GM #6262663, is still available from GM. The bad news is that it's very hard to access. You'll probably need to remove the left side dash panel to access it. That's not a huge deal but you also have to lower the steering column to remove the dash panel.

Thanks for everyone's help. I was able to get to the buzzer and change it, thanks Jimmy. That's the good news. Bad news still does not work. So if you were Buba back in the day, how would you disable the buzzer? My guess is there is a cut wire somewhere. Any ideas where to look next?

            Thanks

The most likely source of the problem is the key warning buzzer switch in the steering column. In fact, I should have mentioned that as the most likely cause in my previous response here. There are two different switches---one for standard column and another for tilt/tele. Some disassembly of the column is necessary to replace the switch. Both switches are GM-discontinued but I believe both are available in reproduction.

                Thanks Joe

is there a way to test it? Can I jumper two wires on the column to make sure the rest of the circuit is good? I want to hear the buzzer buzz before I put the dash back together.

Learned the lesson again, check the simple stuff first. Verified the switch in the column has failed shorted. I verified that by grounding the pink and black/pink wire on the column connector. Buzzer went off when either was grounded. Did not matter if the key was in or out. Removed the door jamb switch and found only a white wire. Should be a white and black wire on the switch. Removed the kick panel and found the black wire cut. Connected the black wire to ground and the buzzer buzzed. Now I guess I need to replace the switch in the column.

Re: 72 Key Warning Buzzer Location

On s 72 I seem to recall there are separate buzzers for the seat belt warning and the key/ignition.
the key one is between the tach/speedo.
the seatbelt one is sandwiched behind the radio and gauge cluster.

And the seat belt buzzer was not added until sometime in December. Depending on your build date, it may not have had one.
