last evening, at our aaca regional monthly meeting, a Ford friend gave me a copy of a 8 1/2 x 11 photo. the pic was taken at an unknown racetrack/fairgrounds in the late 60's(year unknown). anyway, in the pic are a pair of white 67 corvette sbc roadsters entering the ramps side by side . in the pic , the two 67's are just launching off the elevated planks under their inboard wheels. what i found interesting is both 67s wore apparantly factory bolt-on wheels(sans starbursts) and the nearest roadster clearly has factory outside exhaust. an aftermarket mini-rollbar was installed in both 67s. they both have narrow white wall tires .the distal 67 appears to be lacking part of its left parking lite panel and the entire lower valence panel. a grandstand full of race spectators is in the background. the foreground resembles arizona-type sandy top cover. anyone out there have a guess as to where the photo was taken? mike

Mike,
Love your descriptions of the photo any chance of posting it? Vintage photo of old Corvettes are so cool. My mother recently passed away and when we were cleaning out her house I ran across some of pictures of my former cars I've owned when new. Nothing very uninteresting mid to late 70's cars.

I would love to see a thread dedicated to period photos of Corvettes.

Was reading on Joie and said they did a ABC Wide World of Sports show from Islip Speedway in New York, January 1967. Would be cool to find a copy and see if the Corvettes were there. Hope someone can find it, probably won't de me.

Chitwood used also used 1958 Corvettes. There is an article in the May 2006 issue of "Corvette Fever" about restoring one of them.

Terry M made a connection of some sort with Chitwood regarding the '58. I think he now /runs/supervises in some form Daytona Beach - try for that hookup.

loren: the aaca member who gave me the photo monday arranged a meeting, at hershey this weekend, with the son and grandson of joie chitwood. u are correct, one of the chitwoods is involved with the speedway at dayton beach. mike
