    1963 Wheel Cover Information

I am going to mount a set of 1963 wheel covers (on a wall)
and was looking for something I could display with them showing an exploded view of all
the parts that make up these unique wheel covers. This would provide
some interesting information about the make up of all the unique and separate parts. Does anyone know of something like
this that could be copied and any other recommended additional information of interest that could also be displayed with
these one year only wheel covers?

    Hugh,

IIRC there's a 1963 wheel cover blue print in the NCRS Archives at the AACA Library in Hershey, PA.

The AACA Library will make copies of what's in the NCRS Archives for a reasonable fee. AACA does not have the blue prints indexed in the NCRS catalog, so they might not be able to easily find the blueprint.

You could take a wheel cover apart and photograph it.

        Gary,
Contacting the AACA Library is a great idea. Thanks. I will also look for old articles in the RESTORER for some words to go along with the BLUE PRINT.
There must be several articles, and many updates through the years with some interesting photos. Any come to mind??

          Gary,

I spoke with Chris Ritter at AACA, and he advised that the only wheel cover blueprints are for 54 and 64 Corvette. He could find nothing for 1963 wheel cover and/or using part #3830638 only 3843389. I believe he also searched the NCRS drawing catalog. Is there something else to help the search? Thanks.

            Hugh,

IIRC it was around 2009 or 2010 when I went through the two boxes of NCRS drawings at AACA looking for 1956-7 blueprints. AACA at that time didn't have the drawings inventoried. I didn't record the drawing number in my notes, only that there was a '63 hubcap assembly drawing. Only reason I made note of it at the time was because there's always been an ongoing joke about the valve stem location being at the bottom of the hubcap and that's the way it was shown in the assembly drawing.

              Re: 1963 Wheel Cover Information

              Gary;

If the valve stem is not perfectly aligned, will the wheel exhibit any "out-of-balance" characteristics? The reason I ask as this might explain my vibration at speeds above 200 MPH, specially on the banked turns at Daytona.

              Thanks.

Stu, you should have ordered the wings like I did, I have no vibrations at 200 MPH.

                  Stu,

Very interesting thought. IMHO it was a styling engineer's decision on the positioning of the valve stem hole and its alignment on the hubcap. Not an automotive mechanical engineer trying for improved high speed performance handling.
