Yesterday the 10th annual October Vettefest was held at Old Town here in Orlando (yes the place is still doing well w/o NCRS). Turn out was fairly good, but with mostly C-4's through C-7's. My 63 was not alone as there were at least 2 other red ones (mine is Daytona Blue).
Ironically, one such red 63 coupe was parked immediately across from me and looked pretty good. I overheard the owner talking to everyone but me that he bought it in Texas 2 years ago and that he also had a 61 at home that was burgundy with a black top 270 (this sounded familiar). The brief exchange of pleasantries I had with the gentleman was when he commented about my 63 having the 340 hp engine, like he wished he could have found with his 63). Now, I prominently display my NCRS front license tag so usually if there are any other members present we get to meet and at least acknowledge each other. I never got a chance to butt into his conversations to explore whether he too was an NCRS member as he seemed very busy protecting has baby from anyone who got close to it and displayed a sign threatening death to anyone who would touch his beauty. I thought; lighten up dude! You are among Vette enthusiasts. This, and his self indulgence over his car inviting photographers special access, made me determine he could not be one of our members. Oh yes, he even had a personal Florida licence tag which read; "SWC 63". My vanity won't allow me to carry anything but an Antique tag with whatever number I get and, of course, my NCRS front tag.
Oh well, to each his own. Enjoy the Corvette experience.
