No visible stamp in glass on hard top???

I have owned this convertible 1972 Corvette since I was 8 years old. (It was purchased by my dad in September of 1974) I am a new member to NCRS and am hoping to get some info on a question about the glass in the vinyl hard top. It has no stamp visible anywhere on it. Is it possible those to wear off or fade to the point where it's totally gone? I used to love polishing the vinyl top with every new protectant that came out on the market and I would clean the glass at least once a week.....daily if it was summer time. The car only has 89,000 miles on it and I don't ever remember the glass being damaged. In fact, you can see the 1974 parking sticker from Highline Community College where my dad was taking some classes. Someday I would like to have this car judged and I don't know what they would say about the glass.

Thanks in advance for your time.

    Rick

if you're thinking about replacing the glass just for judging, think again. That would be a huge mistake. What "they" might say is, we can't see a date on this glass, so take a 1 point deduct (maybe). Or, they might say nothing at all. Out of 4510 possible points, that is not very much. Keep loving and polishing that glass.
    And, welcome to the club.

Thanks for the information Don. That parking sticker has a lot of sentimental value. My dad passed away in 2012 and seeing that yellow rectangle in the window reminds me of him every time I look at it. I don't care what the deduction would be, I'm not changing that glass.

Ha, really. My dad and I both graduated from Evergreen High School. He in 1965 and me in 1985. Did you go to high school around there?

The date is located right where the parking permit is probably makes it hard to see.

Went to Tyee and had a collision repair business in Burien for 30 years. You still in the area? We are having a NW chapter meet in a couple of weeks, bring your car out.

I'm in Lake Stevens now. You probably knew my uncle Duane Quande. He owned Burien City Garage for about 30 years right there on Ambaum. And I am signed up for the event in Fall City. It will be my very first NCRS meeting and I was thinking about driving my Corvette if the weather cooperates.

                    Rick,
As Ralph Spears has said, the date and other mfg info is directly under the sticker. I don't remember how that information is applied or etched into the glass. Perhaps, if you take the hardtop to a dimly lit area and shine a flashlight from a sharp angle, the date info might "pop-up"............or perhaps a black light?
Sounds like you have a great car with an interesting story.
You'll be amazed at all the Corvette knowledge here. Enjoy.
