Gents, I have a small leak in my newly rebuilt sending unit that has been in the car barely 6 months. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Hard to make a suggestion when you didn't state where the leak is..... If you need a permanent sealant JB weld is a possibility......- Top

I'm sorry, but I too don't know of what sending unit you speak. Are you referring to the fuel pump, the fuel (tank) level gage or sending unit in the tank? Please clarify. If you had a 63, 64 or 65 with fuel injection we probably would understand, but you said a 67.

Sorry gents, I should of been more clear... The sending unit at the gas tank is moist and a small leak is present. I wouldn't apply JB weld in case it has to be taken apart in the future ???Enzo Colosimo

Enzo,
The gasket and lock on stock gas tanks has problems as it has to be centered carefully so that you will get equal compression on the rubber gasket. Try draining the tank and removing the sending unit as you observe the position of the gasket. I would recommend getting a new gasket and installing carefully.

Enzo, also the replacement rubber gaskets are not the same thickness as the originals or NOS ones. I had this very problem on my L79 car. In fact, do a search on the DB and find my thread. A few of us had the same problem. In fact, we even discussed measurements and thickness of the replacement o rings. Also, as Joe points out, centering the gasket is imperative, as is using the correct tool to lock the unit to the tank is essential as well. I have the tool (it's like 15 bucks) and I would happily loan it to you if you don't have one. ARA- Top

If the electrical connectors are weeping gas, you should be able to tighten up on the connector nut if the unit is the original type.

Actually saw tonight that the connector nuts were weeping... Have to go through it and I'm sure the new gasket,tool and tightening will solve the leak problem.. Thanks very muchEnzo Colosimo

Enzo, if it's the electrical connectors that are leaking, then you should be able to simply tighten up the nuts a bit and that should do it. The original sending units had nuts at the connectors while most of the reproduction units have press-in connectors that eventually crack and leak. Don't remove the sender or replace the gasket until you try this simple repair first.
