65-66 Teak wheel, did it come with the car?

Is there any way to determine if a 65-66 teak wheel was delivered with that car. I do know paper work might prove it, my question is when judging the car what do we look for to determine.

    Bill:

There is no way to determine a teak wheel was originally installed on a car or not. The mounting for standard and teak wheels is identical and there are no other indicators as to which was installed.

From a judging perspective I suppose it is possible to tell a poorly done reproduction (there were several in earlier years) but that still does not indicate which wheel was "originally" installed.

I have a teak wheel on my 65 always wondered if it is real or not. I never did any research is there a way to tell?

Hopefully others will answer, but the spokes give the repo away, unless the repo is built on an original core?

Details of spoke bevel on an original; 1st pic is topside; 2nd is underside.

In the spirit of the "Restoration Engine" thread, wouldn't a wheel built on an original core be a restored original?

Thanks for posting the photo. I too have a 1965 with a Teak Wheel and two "experts" told me it was an original and not a repro. Your photo confirms it and how they knew.

Technically yes---provided the core was "restored" with the original material with which it was originally built.

Conversely, a core from a plastic wheel that has been fitted with new pieces of teak to build a teak wheel is NOT a restored original --- it is a "hybrid-reproduction" for lack of a better term... i.e. it never really existed in that form ----

                Just my two cents ---

                Regards
                Bill
