I'd like to replace the battery in my 1971 LT-1. How can I find out what battery was in the car when new? Would like to replace with closest to original replacement. Advice appreciated, Mike.

Thank you. I've got some documentation, including a build-sheet, but it's unreadable for the most part. Mike.- Top

Re: Battery for 1971 Corvette LT-1
Option codes on the build sheet are listed alphabetically. The code for the 'heavy-duty battery' option (and that's the phrasing used on my '72 build sheet) is T60, which will be listed near the bottom of the list of your car's options. If you can discern something like a T60 in the option code column; or pick out wording that looks like 'heavy-duty battery' in the description column, you may have a clue as to the original equipment. And if you can tell for certain that that code and phrase is not present, you know also what was original.

Re: Battery for 1971 Corvette LT-1
Hi Michael
While both the R89S and R89W reproduction batteries are available, if you're thinking about the battery purchase based partly on how well it might do in Flight Judging perhaps the 'W' would be a good choice since I believe it's case is a more accurate reproduction than the case for the 'S' battery.

Michael-------
If you're talking about a battery to be used primarily for judging purposes, then go with the reproduction battery.
However, if you intend to use the car on-the-road, then I'd go with a current Delco battery. That would be a group 78 in your case.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
