1965 Grill Removal

Hello
The 1963 Corvette Shop Manual states that it is not necessary to remove the front bumper to remove the grill assembly. I do not see any additional information on this topic in the 1965 supplemental shop manual. From my inspection I don't see how the grill can be removed without first removing the bumper. Can someone please clarify this for me.

Jim,
The way I understand it the supplement manuals were to address changes that were not in the original manuals. In 1965 the big one was disk brakes and the braking system. Also tele wheel and power antenna. Normally the manuals did not cover procedures such as R&R of front grill assembly which did not change over the life of the C2 production. I have found over the years that not all procedures detailed in the manuals are the "best" way to make repairs.

Jim,
the 63 grille has no perimeter molding on itself, since the trim is attached to the grille opening on the body. And the bumper brackets curve over the top of the grille assembly. There fore you are able to remove it without the removal of the bumpers.
in 65, the grille has a clear anodized perimeter trim with the bumper brackets straight through the assembly. As you recognized it is physically not possible to remove the grille without removing the bumpers first.
