    2015 run flats

I bought a 2015 coupe I bought the extended tire warranty. I have 7000 miles on car I drive it everywhere. I get a blow out right rear wow great that I have tire coverage right? Wrong! My local Chevy dealer who has sold at least 30 14's and 15's has not 1 tire in stock and says they have to come from Michigan! What would I do if I were on my way to South Carolina? any one have this problem?

I drove 200 miles on a run flat to get home as thease tires are only found at large tire stores.

You would think a Chevy dealer would have tires for a car they sell

At $500+ each not too many places can afford to stock them. I had a blowout in Des Moines on a Sunday afternoon. I had to leave the car (I couldn't get more than 25 miles on the run-flat) and come back three days later with the tires.

Right now these tires are also in high demand/low supply. Almost all of the production is going into the new Corvettes, and there are not a lot of them available in the service/retail world. I suspect you will have to order one in and wait. It's just how it is.

Tire Rack. You will have them the next day. I ordered Runflat front tires for my Z06 on a Thursday afternoon and they arrived the next day.

I had 20,000 miles on my Michelin run-flat tires on my 2012 ZR1. No GM or Chevy dealer in my state (OK, it is a small state) had the tires and they had to come from New Jersey, of all places! Then come to find out the dealer who sold me the car did not have a tire machine to mount and balance the tires, nor did any dealer in the state, so my wheels had to be shipped to New Jersey to have the tires mounted on them. This is crazy. I have similar tires on my new Porsche, but the local Porsche dealer has all the tires and equipment to replace them whenever I need it. GM needs to start paying attention if they are selling cars with these exotic tires, wheels, and sizing.

Unless something has changed in recent times, car manufacturers do not warranty the tires. A warranty for the tires comes from the tire manufacturer and is supplied with the owner's packet. Of course, a GM dealer might facilitate a warranty replacement, but I would not expect a GM dealer to inventory tires for warranty replacement purposes.

In my opinion, this trend to run-flat tires is ABSOLUTELY INSANE. The ONLY benefit to a run-flat tire is that you can "limp" to a safe place without changing the tire. After that, EVERYTHING is negative. The old standard of a full size spare is the absolute best way to go.

It may be insane, but it is commonplace now days on most all high performance cars, as is no spare. My ZR1 has zero room for a huge 335X25X20 wheel and tire (rear size), and I have two other high performance cars with the same size or bigger, no way to make room for a spare. And changing it yourself is another thing that is impossible. The ZR1 requires you to put styrofoam molds around the brake rotors to keep from chipping them before taking the wheel off, and unless you are on a lift, that won't happen.

Well, if I had such a car, I'd be EXTREMELY reluctant to take it out on the open road. If it was my only car, then I'd rent a car for any road trip.

I see nothing wrong with a Chevrolet dealer not stocking a seldom asked for tire. As others have suggested, go to a tire store - they are obviously in the business of selling lots of tires. Same thing foe batteries, go to a battery shop or auto parts house.

I am curious though, how is the ride on a Corvette with RF tires? I am on my second BMW and I shed the RF tires 20000 into ownership on both.

As they say (like with the older Corvettes), these cars are made to drive, and I have driven it on many road trips. The last NCRS one was to the Hampton National from New Mexico and back. It is my Sportsman car for NCRS events, it will be in Frisco next month too, and the SoCal meet in November. I don't worry about it all.

I think it is fine, I don't see much difference from the others. The main issue is the low profile (30 or 25) for me, you do feel every bump in the road, not much rubber between the wheel and the road, unlike say my '64. But since there is no spare, I really think the RFs are the only way to go on such cars.

Not necessarily. They get backordered on this tire just like everyone else.

In early May I was going to drive to the Tire Rack to get these same tires installed, but their backorder was until mid/late June! My local dealer scrounged up my 4 tires from 3 locations and installed them for me.

The ride on these Michelins is far nicer than the original Goodyears that came on my 2008. I've notice improving ride in comparing my Dad's (then) new 2002, my 2008 and now my 2008 with Michelins, so they are really getting good at designing these tires. In talking with a Corvette engineer a couple of years ago the price of engineering a runflat is essentially the same as a non, and the benefits to the OEM are huge. I would not ever expect anything else to be coming on a Corvette in the future.

As far as run-flat onlys vs. spare, I have no issues with them. I can count on one hand had the number of flats I've had in my life, and one was with a runflat two years ago on my 2008. I had it repaired the next day after driving home on the "flat" tire and was on my way. Not much point in renting a car for a long trip, Joe, as odds are they will have runflats or the detestable mini-spare. At the rate I have flats, I've got over a decade until the next one comes on; might as well drive the car.
