    Clock date coding

I removed the clock from my '65 coupe to have it serviced and I found the number 135 stamped on the rear casing in blue ink. Is this the date code that Borg would have placed on the housing? Does it decode to the 13th week of 1965?

    Thanks
    Jim

Jim -- I believe you're correct. The clock on VIN 23564 (completed Aug 2nd 1965) is ink-stamped 205, which is probably 20th week of calendar 1965.

      Re: Clock date coding

      Hi Wayne
Thanks for the confirmation. My car was built on about April 15th '65 which would place the production of the clock about 3 weeks prior to the production of the car.

      Thanks

        Re: Clock date coding

        HI:

I am not an expert on clock dates but I have my suspicions about the "week number" theory ---

Maybe it was that way in '65?? But the original clock from my '66 is dated 0036 (or at least that is the number on the case) --- the car was built on Friday, January 21, 1966 --- so using the week theory this would code out to third week of January 1966 --- possible yes but VERY CLOSE to the build date of the car --- so in my mind more like the 3rd day of 1966 or Monday, January 3, 1966 ----

So --- with this '66 clock I am offering that this is a three digit day number and single digit year --- otherwise why would you need a third digit for 52 weeks?

Maybe someone with firm knowledge of the date coding process will weigh in on this --- thankfully, this is not a judged item !!!!!

See below--- (---and of course you could also theorize that the stamped number is NOT a date??? I'm just sayin!!)

Here's one from an early '67. This was rebuilt back in 1977 and has been sitting on a shelf ever since (still works smoothly I might add).

The stamped number is 199 6 - even though the first digit is hard to read. Even if it didn't have the 1 in the date code, there aren't 99 weeks in the year, so my guess is this was built the 199th day of 1966.

            Charlie --- that's gotta be it --- 199th day of 66 ---

--- that date would make sense ---as it codes out to Monday, July 18th 1966 --- so clearly a work day as well ---

Thanks everyone for the interesting discussion. The "day of year" theory works for me
