    C4 ZR1 convertible

Hi all, new kid on the block here.
Question: were there really about a dozen convertible C4 ZR1s built?

    Re: C4 ZR1 convertible

A convertible C4 ZR-1 was definitely never a production option.

I think I remember reading an article long ago about someone building a custom one. I can't remember if a ZR-1 coupe was chopped or if an LT5 was dropped in a vert.

Has anyone heard of Chevy building one or more test mules?

The DR1 was a ZR1 convertible built for Don Runkle? The rear deck looked like the deck of an aircraft carrier. Were there others that were engineering prototypes also? My guess would be Yes.

Dr. Google came up with this:
corvette, corvettes, prototype, ex-122, corvette prototypes, stingray, cerv

Cool looking car; I wonder if it's still in the NCM?

          Thx Mark

additional info I've got: they would be narrow bodies, so I guess regular C4 convertibles fitted with LT5...

An anal comment: it's ZR-1 for C4; it changed to ZR1 for C6.

GM RPO codes lost the hyphen WAY before the C6 era.

Guys: got a VIN for that would-be convertible ZR1: 1G1YZ23J4M5800794
The owner means it was an original ZR1 coupe (can someone confirm VIN?) which has been cut to convertible!

The 6th character of the VIN being a "2" indicates the car was originally a coupe.

Thanks a lot, Joe et al!
I will check how well the conversion was done before buying; won't be original, won't be a road racing contender if no chassis reinforcement, but still an interesting curiosity.
