Correct Oil Pan Drain Plug Location on a 73 L48?

My L48 oil pan drain plug is located in the rear center. I don't think my pan was replaced. However, the 73-74 JM says the drain plug is located on the driver's side on the L48 and L82 cars, and the plug is located in the rear on the LS4. Is the manual in error or is my pan not correct?

The manual is incorrect. Plug should be center rear.

Center rear for ALL 1963-74 Corvette small blocks---every single one ever built.

            Thank you Joe,
So the JM has these reversed?
Then all LS4's drain plugs should all be on the driver's side of the pan?

Thanks again Russ and Joe for clarifying this for me and for sharing your wealth of knowledge. Made notes of these corrections (along with the BB & SB dip stick clarifications from another post) in my judging manual. Hope it won't be an issue in the spring when I plan to have the car judged at our chapter meet.

No Corvette big block ever used an oil pan with a side drain. None. Other Chevrolet models with big block did, though.

The 73-74 judging guide is very old so it will most likely be an issue at a chapter meet along with other items.

So it sounds like we're saying all '63-74 Corvettes, small block and big block, had rear facing oil drain plugs.

                        Yup, that's how it is.

From 1963-96 only the following used a side oil drain:

                        1) All 1975-79
