67 Small Block Non A/C Battery Heat Shield

    HI:

I have a heat shield on my '67 small block (non-AC) right side mounted battery. It is clearly an aftermarket piece. It is not painted but is a gold chromate covering. It also has a single hole near the bottom toward the rear. I have two questions:

    1) Should the heat shield be painted? If yes then I assume clearly ----semi-flat black ---

    2) I also assume there should be a "J" type retainer clip to hold the positive battery cable attached via the hole in the shield. The '67 AIM shows the clip (UPC 12 - A6 page G221) but appears to call out two mounting points vs. a single hole as the reproduction has. No mention of rivets or screws --- just the drawing. Which of the two is correct? Single hole, double hole --- no clip at all???

I am looking for a definitive call on this (for judging purposes). If you have an original shield I would really like to know what your configuration is on this piece. Photos attached:

A typical reproduction piece (sold by several vendors) --

------ and a shot of a similar part in the car ---- you can see the open hole near the center of the photo ---

Any definitive help will be much appreciated!!

    Regards
    Bill

    Mr. Lucia,

Would a picture like this be definitive enough?

At least one source is telling me that this is the correct retainer for the positive cable ---

          Any thoughts?

            Bill,

Yes, that's the retainer that goes in that lower hole and keeps the positive cable off the exhaust manifold.

Sometimes those dudes at GM were just too practical!
