    65 Tunnel insulation glue pattern

So I'm removing a tunnel insulation blanket from a 65 coupe. As you see from the pictures the glue flowed upward or the body was upside down when the glue was applied. So can glue defy gravity and flow upward or was the body upside down when the glue was sprayed on. Pretty sure this insulation had never been removed or reapplied. Thanks Scott

Scott, They probably brushed or sprayed the glue on the floor upside down before it was bonded to the other panels. I saw the same "drip"evidence lately on the '67 I'm restoring which was never separated from the chassis until I got to it. Here are a few pics I just shot.

What you suspect is probably correct, upside down, but to optimize production I'd guess many pieces wee installed to the panels before bonding to other panels, in some cases upside down. Much like the chassis assembly, upside down so gravity aided the workers handling the heavy items.

      Scott -

That insulator was installed as part of the underbody subassembly in the basement below the Body Shop, after the bend-over retainers were riveted in place; the underbody was inverted at that time. That's why the glue runs "uphill".

The man has spoken. I say that with great respect towards John H. as he was there and without him there would be many many questions unanswered here. Thank you John and all the other contributors to this forum that help out all the time.

Well shucks, I was hoping my glue ran uphill. Scott
