    Re: Martin Milner (1931-2015)

    Hi,
I, too, was fascinated with these fellows who didn't seem that much older than I was but were out in America having adventures in THAT car!!!!
Here's a picture that Ralph Spears sent me and asked that I add it to this thread.
    Regards,
    Alan

As a young teenager it was so cool to see a couple of guys traveling around the country in a new Corvette. What life could be better? Not too many years later I was doing the same thing on several cross country drives after I finished my undergraduate work. Route 66 cemented my desire to drive a Corvette, and I'm sure that many others in my age group were similarly affected.

Supplying the Corvettes for that series was a marketing bull's eye!

Martin Milner, who starred on TV on "Adam-12" with Kent McCord and, earlier, on "Route 66" with George Maharis, died Sunday night. He was 83

Martin and his work had an even bigger influence on me. I became a cop AND my garage is full of Vettes.
      God bless you Martin.

        Sorry Ralph!

Route 66 theme by Nelson Riddle. It lets me dream a bit.

They filmed a couple of episodes in Ft Myers, Fl. When I found out where they would be filming, I skipped school to go see them. The Corvettes that is. Jack Webb certainly inspired me to get into police work and I didn't miss too many episodes of Adam-12. 10-7 Martin

              Hello Bob Hoffman,
I have a question of the episode you had seen. What was the year of the Corvette and the paint color?
              Thanks,
              Drew Papsun

Don't know if anyone mentioned this, but you can still see reruns of Route 66 on METV. In my area it's shown at 4:00 am, but I DVR it.

Amazon sells all 116 episodes on a 24 disc DVD set for $82. Just in case your SO is wondering what to get you for X-Mas.

I think that 24-disk set was released a couple of years ago. Prior to that the first year was avaliable on CD... sounds like a good winter's nights' project. Check your library!

When I started watching Route 66 as a young teenager I was more interested in the Corvettes than the story lines. But as an adult watching the first year CD set I realized that it was a very well written dramatic show that took on a lot of socio-political issues of the time. The quality far surpasses the current trash on TV, which is why I don't have cable or satellite, but I can pull in some ball games and auto races with ancient UHF and VHF indoor antennas.

                      Re: Martin Milner (1931-2015)

The first 3 seasons of route 66 are on HULU (internet based TV) and I have been watching them recently. I don't remember the original broadcast very well so it is like watching a new program. As Duke said above the writing and direction was ahead of its time and they are still very good to watch. I'm always surprised when I see a well known actor show up (Burt Reynolds, Ed Asner, Robert Duval). With the old black and white show you really can't tell the color of the Corvette and I haven't seen any mention of a new car arriving at the start of the new season. Being from the Boston area it is interesting seeing them driving through the city in 1961 the sky line has changed a lot since then.

Duke, if you obtain a digital converter, and put an old style (read: big) antenna in your attic (upside down) you can pull in quite a lot of programming.

You don't need a digital converter with a HDTV, which has a coax connection for an antenna. My house has open beam ceilings, so no attic. I just use an old rabbit ear for VHF, and a "bowtie" antenna for UHF. Digital TV over the air is still an analog electromagnetic wave. The digital signal is superimposed on the carrier wave, and the bandwidth allocated to each "channel" actually allows three digital channels, but the subchannels are junk.

The transmission antennas are all on Mt. Wilson, about 30 miles away, but I don't have line of sight. There is a hill to the west that has line of sight to Mt. Wilson, so I point the antennas out my large front window and pick up a reflected signal from the houses to the west. Most are stucco, which has a backup wire mesh that reflects the signal.

Signal strength is good, but occasionally there is dropout for a couple of seconds. It took me a while to figure this one out when I first set up my HDTV, but it turned out to correlate with cars driving by. Even though cars have to meet EMI standards they can still interfere, which shows how weak the signal can be and still get perfect reception.

                                Duke,
don't know the specifics, just that my last house had one of the old style antennas in the attic, and I could pull about 30 stations, some from fairly far away in Canada.
