Hazard Warning Switch for 1966 - Option V74

To all,

Just curious as to how many of these cars/Switched are still around. I believe that about 5,000 cars came with this option. This option was only available in 1966.

I installed one in my 63 about 40 years ago. The red jeweled switch is way up under the dash mounted on the column so it can't easily be seen, but one can find it by hand. I use it mostly for when I'm in a night parade cruise. As I recall, it was a bear to wire.

5,764 cars were ordered with the 4 way switch. Stuart the GM switch's are a plug and play. very easy to install

It may have been longer than that (40 years), because I recall there were none available for retrofit to earlier year cars when I did mine. It was an aftermarket kit.

For the GM 4 way switch it has a plug that plugs into the turn single switch and then anther plug that plugs into the main harness so all the turn single current goes through the 4 way switch. it also has a orange power feed wire that plugs into the fuse block.

HI:

I believe but can't conclusively state that the V-74 (style) flasher was around well before 1966.

It turned up in 1966 as an option on Corvettes -- AND as a requirement for cars delivered in the state of New York. i.e. NY required four-way flashers one year prior to the federal requirement in 1967 and newer ----so technically, if you have a NY state delivered '66 it should have V-74 --- any other state it was an option...

The kit was available prior to 1966 --- I have four in boxes in my stash --- HOWEVER, as I mentioned I think that it was available well in advance of anything I have (--earlier than 66) --- Additionally, the kits I have contain different types of bezels and pull knobs intended for Pontiac / Buick /Oldsmobile --- i.e. chrome mounting bezels and even one with a round red plastic pull knob with a chrome trim ring----

This is an easy add option for any 65-66 --- and if I recall it was an over the counter piece for '65's---- But be aware --- for 1965 it is a dealer added option and judged accordingly, no problem for 1966 if installed properly.

Keith --- could be for sure --- I am only aware of NY but the MD req seems logical ---
