I am doing a frame off restoration on a 1969 convertible. My question is on the 2 Astro Vents on the back behind the deck lid. The 'lip' where the grills mount has been painted black along with the area that goes into the body. Can someone tell me how the 'lip' and area that goes down into the body are finished from the factory? Thanks for any information. Steve

Re: 1969 Frame Off Overspray Question
Steve
St Louis used a mask that laid on the deck lid with lips that fit into the Astro Vent openings. After the mask was placed the black-put was sprayed into the openings to cover the body color overspray. With this process some of the body lip remained body color and some of it was black.Terry- Top

Re: 1969 Frame Off Overspray Question
I know on the 71-72 cars the grill lip and the pocket were blacked out.
but on a 69 I am fairly sure the grill area was just body color w/o blackout applied. and the one original I saw had very little paint in the pocket at all, most like body color over spray.
my 2 cents...
