1967 Wipers maflunctioning

I got caught in the rain this past Saturday and had to drive in the rain (oh the horror). The wipers came on and worked in low speed and high speed, the problem is that they would not shut off when I turned the switch to OFF. They would run for another minute or three and then shut down and park in the correct positions.


I have no clue as to a remedy as I thought (I know, there I go thinking again) that if the switch shut off the power, or the ground, it should stop, period. No delay in stopping.


Any ideas?

The switch applies the ground as you said but that has nothing to do with the malfunction. Your wiring is fine BUT the WW Motor has not been serviced lately. When the switch is turned (ground removed) a relay drops a small lever to start the parking cycle. It usually takes a swipe across the windshield and then parks. The arm is probably sticking in the grease and then becomes free as the motor continues to run. This could probably be fixed by removing the cover and cleaning the inside with some type of solvent and then lubing the gears and lever. It's not very accessible but this would be better than removing the WW motor as that is a major pain! Good Luck, your gonna need it!

Electronics, motor spray cleaner. Clean up the mechanism.
