    1984 Z51 twin cooling fans

My 1984 Corvette has the Z51 performance package and my car has two cooling fans. One on the fan shroud and one on the in front of the radiator. Was the second fan part of the Z51 package or was this something the previous owner added ?

    Walter------

The secondary ("pusher") fan was part of the Z51 package.

By the way, your service parts identification logo should show "V08".

The only thing coming close to VO8 is VO1 on my build sheet and cargo do, but both have the code Z51. The second part of this question gets harder. Do both fans operate together. My FSM saying nothing about a second fan or a seperate switch or relay.

As I recall, the primary fan (puller fan) is controlled by the main engine temperature sending unit and some auxiliary inputs such as AC condenser pressure and car forward speed. I believe the temperature for the fan to come on is around 226 F. It goes off when the engine temperature comes back down to around 215 F or so.

The secondary fan (pusher fan) is on/off from a separate temperature switch. I believe it comes on around 230F.

All of this is detailed in the Chevrolet Service Manual Set...........which is about 2-3 inches thick or so. The service manual is good to have.

In all the time I had my 1987 Z51 car, the secondary fan never came on. I tested it about once/year just to make certain it still worked.

That's close enough. I should have said V08 OR V01.
