    '65 Muncie 4-speed - shift linkage problem?

From time to time when my Corvette rolls slowly and I want to either shift from three to neutral or two it feels as if I'm stirring in a pot and/or the reverse lock isn't working and I reach the reverse, which results in a greeting from the gearbox. This could happened shortly after starting to drive or after a longer trip - so independent of gear oil temperature. Otherwise up/down shifting etc. is fine and crispy - no pop out etc.. Even right after such an occurrence. There hasn't been a recent gear oil change.

I'd start be checking the cage that the shifter levers are in. (on the side of the trans bolted to the tailhousing) I've seen the weld that keeps the shifter nice and tight break, allowing a lot of slop in the workings...

Yup. That will definitely give you that "paint stick in a box of oatmeal" feeling !!
