Passing of Howard Hoover

Today I must report the passing of Howard Hoover NCRS number 17617. Howard was a long time member of the Michigan Chapter, former Chapter Chairman, Vice-Chairman, Chairman of the 2008 Michigan Regional, Chairman of the 2011 Michigan National, 400 Level Master Judge, Bloomington Gold Master Judge and a friend to all. Howard and his wife Margaret started and ran the Michigan Chapter Charity Swap Meet for over ten years and they helped raise over $15,000 for SCAMP!

As the current Michigan Chapter Chairman I dread receiving this type of phone call! This year we have lost three outstanding Chapter Members in the last six months! First Bob Sigler, then Mark Gorney and now Howard Hoover - 69 is way to young!

I am truly heartbroken. Howard and Margaret were close friends for many years. We went on road tours to the conventions together. We shared condos at the Florida Regionals and worked together for the benefit of our chapter for many years. I will miss him greatly. May God welcome you into his loving arms Howard.

Howard was one of the first faces of NCRS that I encountered when I first joined. He was always warm and inviting to talk with. Always willing to share his knowledge with others. He'll surely be missed. My prayers to his wife and family.

Our condolences to Margaret and their family. I judged with Howard and worked with Howard on the convention. Howard was a true gentleman and it was a pleasure to call him a friend.

While I am a newer member in comparison to many of you I became an NCRS member because of Howard. After selling my 57 I was looking for a mid year and after passing on a handful of cars in the Seattle area I found a couple in Michigan and Ohio. I found Howard through a web search and asked if he would inspect a couple of cars I was considering purchasing and he agreed. Howard was detailed and called when he arrived at the first car to let me know he was getting ready to start the inspection. He called 10 minutes later and I jokingly said I was expecting a more through inspection... Howard responded well the body has been off as advertised. They had to raise the body when they welded the frames together! Should I keep inspecting it? I laughed and said no. Off to car two and three and after passing on all of those Howard called a week later and asked if I found a car yet. I hadn't and he told me about a friends car and helped us work out a deal. Howard was a man of character and unimpeachable integrity. Howard responded to many questions and e-mails as I got the car ready for Tacoma and I had hoped to show him the restored car in Denver this year, but he didn't make it. I've been in touch with Margaret and expressed my condolences and I hope that in the next several years I will be as much help to our membership as Howard was to me. I am a better person having known Howard and will miss our talks.
