    65 painted

I finally painted my Maroon 65 today. It was a battle the lacquer I had mixed in 2004 was bad , I was lucky enough to find some old leaded paint from the 90s that was still very good . I hope the judges are smart enough to recognize lacquer . It would have been allot easier & cheaper to use DSC_1844.jpgDSC_1846.jpgDSC_1847.jpgBC/CC .

    Bill,
That has been a looooong time in coming! I remember back in the dark ages when you wrote the article about finding and acquiring the car, and then getting title for it. Congratulations!

Congrats. on the mile stone. Just yesterday I finished painting my most recent project (not a Corvette) and it's a big relief to get that behind me. Post some pics. when you get a chance.

Yea Mike that was a long time ago . It took retirement & a bout with Melanoma to get me off my butt. Remember when you came to Alton and looked at Dave Dawdys 60 race car . I bet you never thought it would be done and now he has found paper work from the orig. owner/driver and the orig FI .

          Bill,

Judging paint is not knowing how to tell the difference between lacquer and BC/CC, judging the paint is all about how the factory applied the paint. Material doesn't have much to do with the judging as you can make BC/CC look like factory applied paint.

Great progress on the car, can't wait to see the car when it's done..........

Looks great, Bill. After all the work you've put into this project, seeing it with a fresh coat of paint means you've made some major progress.

The car looks great Bill and I know exactly what you mean. I'll bet the only lacquer that most of our exterior judges have seen is lacquer that has been cut and buffed to oblivion and back. Newly applied lacquer has that micro texture that only lacquer has. Sitting in a field of today's restored cars my fear is that my car will look "under restored" and I'll need to defend the paint for what it really is.

Regardless, I wouldn't have it an other way.
