1994-1996 C4 corvette radio trim bezel (Joe Lucia)

Is GM part # 10262830 for 1994-1996 C4s Corvette radio trim bezel suppose to be rubberized or non-rubberized plastic? I have one NOS in the box, but it's non-rubberized. Is this the correct texture?

    Thanks

Is it the lighting or does that look to be gray color like used in 1990-91

      It's the lighting. It's black.

      This is a better picture.

        Ed,

That is the correct one for your 94-96 and still available from GM. The coating is not very thick but it's there. The reproduction shifter consoles are VERY thick and VERY sticky so the bezels from GM look a little thin.

          Ed--------

The GM #10262830 was not ORIGINALLY used for all 1994-96 Corvettes. It was originally used only for 1996 Corvettes and later became the SERVICE trim plate (bezel) for 1994-95 Corvettes. The original trim plate for 1994 Corvettes was GM #10161881. The original trim plate for 1995 Corvettes (and at one time also SERVICE for 1994 Corvettes) was GM #10251805. So, assuming that any of these ever had a rubberized coating, it's possible that changed over the several iterations.

It would be interesting to hear from folks with 1994, 1995 and 1996 Corvettes with the original trim plate (which most should still have) if their radio trim plate (bezel) had a rubberized finish. Just a touch will reveal this.

I can tell you that 1992 Corvettes, which used a differently configured trim plate, did have a rubberized coating.

Just made a touch of my original owner 1996 Corvette's original trim plate. It is rubberized.

My early 94 has a thin layer of rubber

Ed, my 1995 with a build date of August 4, 1994 has a thin layer of rubber. It is same material as on the shifter plate cover. It is not a smooth plastic material.

I just compared my original to the one in the picture and my original feels more rubberized than that one (NOS). They both contain the same part number. Of course, my original has years of wear and some dressing has been applied to it in the past that can potentially affect the texture. Is it possible that GM kept the same part number and slightly changed the texture?

Yes, it's possible. It could also easily fall within "manufacturing tolerance" even if the specs for the part number were never revised. However, the original rubberized coating (at least based on the one one my 1992) is really quite thin to begin with.
